A little bit more than a week has passed since Charles and François Hamelin came back from Russia. Happy to be home, the brothers had a few well deserved, recovery days after their long trip to Europe. They needed a little break before concentrating on the final long stretch until the Olympics. Last week workouts were relatively easy which allowed Charles to take care of his injury that is now almost completely healed. Charles claims that the period before Christmas will be extremely busy. “We are beginning a laborious training cycle with more than 700 laps per week. It won’t be easy but we all know it is the path to victory.” With the Olympics approaching, December will also be filled with interviews; the boys will therefore also have a lot of work to do off ice.
In addition to the pre-Olympic fever, François is very excited because of another event happening in his life right now. The younger Hamelin is indeed delighted because his girlfriend has just moved in with him. “We can now clearly see a woman’s touch in the condo!” says he, laughing.
Joking aside, François says December is usually filled with emotion because of his birthday and of course Christmas. But this year will be different. Because of the preparation for Sochi, he won’t be able to see all his relatives for holiday celebration. “Every year we get a day off for Christmas and New year. But we have a lot of work to do until February and training sessions will be very intense so we will celebrate Christmas very simply this year.”
Let's wish the best to Charles and François for the intense upcoming weeks!
